Community Involvement
Our community can get involved by showing the teens they care. Our community can help us pass out cards with information on dealing with abuse. They can share our social media around for us to get a bigger audience. They can talk to their child about sexual and domestic abuse. They can come sit in one of our meetings to see how we are doing and what we are about. We feel that if the teens see their parents coming then they may feel a lot better about what they are going through and tell them. Eighty-one percent of parents believe teen dating violence is not an issue or admit they don’t know if it’s an issue. Eighty-one percent is a very high percentage of parents not knowing or admitting the problem. But their is also 82% of parents feel confident that they could recognize the signs if their child was experiencing dating abuse, a majority of parents (58%) could not correctly identify all the warning signs of abuse. This is why we opened up our meeting to the parents also.
